6x6-inch calendar featuring mixed-media paintings of some of my favorite singers and songwriters. 2020 edition features Maybelle Carter, Rosetta Tharpe, Loretta Lynn, Mavis Staples, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams.
About the process: for each artist portrait, I chose a signature song, write out the lyrics on notebook paper, and paint over the lyrics using acrylic paint. I tear the lyric sheet into small pieces to make a collage on an 8x8 heavy chipboard backing. The artist portrait is then added to the collage and painted using black and white acrylic paint.
